Ashley Swearengin took the race for Fresno's next Mayor by a 10 point margin.
Swearengin beat out Fresno City Councilman Henry T. Perea with 55% of the vote.
Swearengin called the victory race for Mayor live on CBS 47 around 10:00 PM on election night.
Ashley Swearengin will be Fresno's first female Strong Mayor and only the second female Mayor in the city’s history. Karen Humphrey served as the first female between 1989 and 1993.
Henry T. Perea will continue to serve on the Fresno City Council with two years left in his current term. Disappointed with the mayoral race outcome, Perea spent the night talking with supporters at what he hoped would be a victory rally. At the start of the night, Perea was behind in votes but his supporters remained faithful believing the numbers would turn around. When it was clear that Swearengin had the votes; Perea quietly left with his wife.
Perea declined to go on camera after the loss but said he was grateful to all of his supporters.
